Hello future Lounge Actors! My name is Rob Diamond. I’m glad that you have found this site and are considering pursuing your dreams or continuing on your journey as an actor. I look forward to sharing with you my 25 years of experience in the film industry as an actor, writer, director, producer and acting coach!
My Actors Lounge has been a staple in the Utah community since 1998. What I teach works.
Classes are on-going and only take short breaks for certain holidays or if I am directing a movie. I have taught kids as young 4 and adults past 80 (it’s never to late or early to start). From beginning – advanced, all of you wonderful dreamers are welcome with open arms.
We cover on-camera cold reading, auditions, scene study, monologues, commercials, and from time to time a splash of improv. We do drama, comedy, action, thriller, romance and almost every genre you can think of. You get good only two ways – through practice and experience. Practice by coming to class and experience by being on an actual film set. I will prepare you for being on film sets. We block scenes, we shoot scenes, we watch scenes. We cover the master, the medium and the close up shot. You will learn to be a pro. And if you already are a pro – I’ll make you a better pro.
I’m very proud to say that my students have landed speaking parts in literally hundreds of movies, television shows and commercials over the many years I have been teaching. My approach to acting is fluid and easy to understand. Actors get paid to FEEL. I will teach you how to be real – how NOT to be caught acting. We all know honest and truthful acting when we see it. Why? Because we FEEL it! At the end of the day, it’s all about an actor EXPERIENCING the emotion they want to convey. Every human being has experienced almost every emotion by a very young age. So, in my opinion, you can choose to become a very believable actor by breaking down your walls and learning how to be yourself when the camera roles. My job is to provide a safe place for you to explore your emotions every single week. My Actors Lounge is what you might call an “emotional gym” – a sanctuary to sharpen your skills and open your heart.
Since most movies are shot out of sequence, actors must learn to live in the moment in every scene they do. There are many ways to approach breaking down a scene. At Rob Diamond’s Actors Lounge, you will learn to do just that. From the before moment to your objective in a scene, you will gain the knowledge you need. Actors will explore the power of real life memories (emotional recall), the beauty of the imagination and how to lock into a scene and develop characters from the inside out. What I cherish the most is what works for you. Each one of you is unique and we will explore together. The tools you carry in your acting toolbox will at the end of the day be up to you. But one tool is a must have and that is to learn to always LISTEN. Listening will be one of the keys to your success as an actor. When we listen, we react. And as the old saying goes – acting is reacting. When we listen to someone, we not only listen to the words, but to the meaning of what is trying to be conveyed to us.
You are in the business of connecting with human beings. Strangers will be playing your mother, father, son, daughter, best friend, etc. You must be an open book. That’s hard at first, but will surely come with time, practice and experience. There are also many, many other techniques and philosophies we will explore together. In my classes you will continually hone your skills and build your confidence as a human being and as an actor which are one in the same. I believe that as you show your devotion and work hard, you will become a better person in many areas of your life.
